Year 1867

Webjørn Svendsen junior built Svendsen-låna in 1867. This is one of the first Swiss style houses in Sunnmøre. The house is an early example of a prefabricated house, produced by the company Thams in Trøndelag.

During the latter half of the 19th century, Svendsen-låna and Svendsengarden housed many of the functions that were fundamental to the development of the town. In addition to the farm and the trading activities, that were the starting point for Svendsengarden, there was also a post office, a ship expedition, a bank and a hotel here at various times.

Svendsengarden is considered a cultural heritage of regional value and was chosen as the millennium place of Ørsta kommune in 2000.
